Cade Dillard grabs Cajun Clash opener at Ark-La-Tex

Cade Dillard picked up his first win of the 2023 season on Thursday evening with a $3,000 United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) victory behind the wheel of his S&S Fishing & Rental Inc. No. 97 Bass Bucks and Birds / CDR Race Car / Mullins Racing Engine Modified.

“We hit the ground running on Friday night and got the victory. Ark-La-Tex (Speedway) is where I got my first USMTS win. It’s been a long road since then, and I’m just thankful for the opportunities I’ve had. I never thought I'd still be racing, much less doing the things I've got to do, but it's a blast. To me there's nothing more fun than Mod racing. There’s not better Modifieds in the country than what races with these guys and I got so much respect for them.” Dillard said. “Unfortunately, from being on top of the world on Friday night our luck kind of went downhill for the rest of the weekend, but we still had fun getting to race close to home with a lot of friends and family around.”

Cade Dillard made the short trip to Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, La.) on Thursday evening to enter his S&S Fishing & Rental No. 97 Modified into battle with the United States Modified Touring Series for the opening round of the 10th annual Cajun Clash.

Amongst a field of 67 cars, Dillard laid down the second-fastest lap in his group before passing three cars in his heat race to finish second. Tracking down pole-starting Colton Horner on the seventh circuit of the feature, Cade paced the field for the remainder of the 35-lapper to claim his first win of the season and 20th-career USMTS victory.

He pocketed a $3,000 payday ahead of Jim Chisholm, Dereck Ramirez, Darron Fuqua, and Chase Holland.

On Friday, Cade followed up a sixth-to-fourth showing in his heat race with a consolation victory. Rebounding in the feature after suffering an early flat tire, Dillard charged from the tail to finish 15th.

For Saturday’s Cajun Clash finale, Dillard crossed the line in first in his heat but was disqualified in post-race tech. He was a scratch from the $10,000-to-win main event.

Full results from the event are available at www.USMTS.com.
